Vanessa Hudgens shows her transformation from school girl to style star in the latest issue of InStyle Makeover. The 20-year-old High School Musical starlet, who wore a Ferragamo dress on the cover, tells the mag about one of her hair disasters growing up. “I had short hair only once in my life,” she reveals. “When I was 7, I cut it myself, which I think every girl does — once. I gave myself a bob and bangs. It was really sad. I looked like I had worms on my head.”

The 20-year-old High School Musical starlet has been stepping over boundaries these days, from getting more movie roles to moving into her own house.  She's taking a stand towards independence, but can't help but back down when the vacuum cleaner beckons.

Vanessa Hudgens talked to Parade magazine about the ups and downs of living on her own.  "I feel like I need to earn my right to have a home," she exclaimed.  "It's nice to be spoiled, but I want to be able to know that I can do it."

Hudgens also opened up about her fear of things that go bump in the night.  However, she's ready to face that, especially because she enjoys her house so much.  "It's weird living by myself," she said.  "I thought I'd be the person who, every time I hear a little noise, would hide under my bed.  But I've fallen in love with my home.  When I'm in there, I feel safe."

Disney star Ashley Tisdale works out regularly and follows a high-protein, low-carb diet in order to stay in shape and keep her energy up for her hectic work schedule. But what she really enjoys is working out with BFF Vanessa Hudgens.

"Vanessa and I always have so much fun working out together," Tisdale, 24, tells OK! "It’s definitely fun to hang out with your girlfriends, and to go workout, especially when it’s an early morning class!”

Ashley keeps herself lean and strong by working out with a personal trainer and exercising at home to Piloxing DVDs.

“It’s Pilates and boxing put together,” she says. “I always make time for it, because not only is it healthy for you, but it also relieves my stress. I’m so busy doing stuff and I get stressed a lot that working out takes me away from that.”

What else does Tisdale do? “I usually do 30-40 minutes on elliptical, and then the DVD Piloxing for an hour," says Ashey. “I work out to build a little muscle because I’ve always been very thin.”

Tisdale uses a common sensical approach to her diet. “You want to eat more protein and limit the carbs,” she says. “Sunday’s my day off, where I eat whatever I want. I don’t not let myself have something. I do love French fries and bread."

Ashley always makes sure she starts her day off with a good breakfast. "Breakfast is my favorite meal," she says. "I have a big breakfast. I love omelets in the morning. I love turkey bacon. I eat a lot during the day, no matter what.”

The former High School Musical costars have apparently grown apart because of Ashley’s new boyfriend, music video director Scott Speer — who she’s dated for three months.

Scott, sources claim, is already already micromanaging Tisdale’s career and image — and urging her to ditch her good-girl persona.

“Ashley and Vanessa barely hang out anymore and it’s because Ashley is totally consumed with Scott,” a source told American tabloid the National Enquirer.

“He’s taken on the role of unofficial career adviser and thinks Ashley needs to change things up and ditch her good-girl style. He doesn’t want Ashley hanging out with her HSM costars as much.

Vanessa Hudgens has admitted that she leaves the TV on at night so she can't hear scary noises. The 20-year-old singer and actress moved out of her family home a few months ago to live alone, and was surprised at how brave she had been about living in an empty house.

"I thought I'd be the person who, every time I hear a little noise, would hide under my bed. But I've fallen in love with my home," she told Parade magazine. "When I'm in there, I feel safe."

"I don't think I've gotten scared once - knock on wood - in my house by myself. Then again, I do sleep with the TV on so that I don't hear all the little clinks and clanks at night!"

And despite only living 10 minutes away from her family, Vanessa is adamant that she should do all of her own washing and cleaning in order to be independent.

"High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens admits she finds it hard to keep her new house clean.

"There is a struggle to keep the place clean. I'm always in my kitchen scrubbing down the counters and doing the dishes. I understand how my mom feels now," says the actress-singer.

Buying the Studio City, California house last year, Vanessa says she loves living alone, reasoning

"The best thing about living alone is being able to have my friends come over whenever."

However, her family and friends often worry about her. "I feel completely safe in my house but all my friends are scared for me. And of course I can tell my parents panic a little," Vanessa claims.

Vanessa Hudgens bought the particular house in early September 2008. The Tuscan style house boasts hardwood and stone floors, six bathrooms and a swimming pool with spa, waterfalls, and a barbeque island. It is said to be worth $2.75 million.

Vanessa Hudgens has revealed she has become 'extremely guarded' since photos of her naked appeared online. The High School Musical actress said she had learned from her mistakes. While Hudgens guard is up, fellow Disney starlet Demi Lovato has let her guard down - by posing make-up free online.

The pretty actress, 16, uploaded a snapshot of her natural look on her Twitter page, and fans of the Camp Rock star were quick to praise her. One wrote: "That's what I call natural beauty. Fantastic pic." She said of her photo: "No edit. No make-up. Raw."

For Vanessa she refuses to discuss her personal life - including her relationship with Zac Efron - in a bid to stop gossip. She said: "That's why I'm extremely guarded.

Vanessa Hudgens refuses to draw attention to herself when she is out in public - because it only ever leads to negative comments from "haters" trying to bring her down.The High School Musical star was launched into the spotlight when she landed the lead role opposite Zac Efron in the hit Disney film.

Vanessa Hudgens has revealed she’s gotten very protective of herself since photos of the “High School Musical” star — sans clothing — cropped up on the Internet in 2007.

“That’s why I’m extremely guarded. I really do try to watch everything I say. Because one little tiny slip, and it’s like the world is coming to an end,” she told this Sunday’s edition of Parade magazine. “It is hard. I do always have a wall up. But I feel by doing it, I keep myself safe.”

Vanessa said another decision she’s made for herself out of protection is staying away from gossip Web sites.

“I try not to read the blogs or what people say about me. Because that’s what brings everybody down — no matter what you do, you’re always going to have haters,” she said.

But Vanessa will always have her mother – Gina Guangco – behind her. She is so close to her mom that Vanessa once cost Gina a job.

Vanessa Hudgens is ready for the summer sun as she hangs onto a cute parasol on this weekend’s (July 26) cover of Parade magazine. The 20-year-old actress revealed to the magazine that although she loves her new home in Hollywood Hills, she still sleeps with the television on at night.
