Vanessa Hudgens is ready to move on with her life. Step out of the mould she was cast in as Gabriella Montez in High School Musical and, yes, put her nude photo scandal behind her.
Hudgens, 20, who is Allure's October issue cover story, tells the magazine:
"People think of me as the High School Musical girl. There's nothing wrong with that. My character was a great role model, but I get so bored doing the same thing. I want to grow like everybody else."
About her nude photos that first appeared on the web in September 2007, and then again a second set in August this year, Hudgens says:
"Whenever anybody asks me, would I do nudity in a film, if I say that it's something I'm not comfortable with, they're like, 'Bulls--t, you've already done it.' If anything, it makes it more embarrassing, because that was a private thing. It's screwed up that someone screwed me over like that," she adds, sighing. "At least some people are learning from my mistakes."
In her recent film, Bandslam, Hudgens plays a "darker" character that people aren't used to seeing her play.
In her upcoming movie Sucker Punch she plays a hooker. The film, about a bunch of girls in a mental institution, is set in a brothel in the 1950s.
"It totally is my Angelina Jolie part," she says of the role. "I get to run around with guns and fight big men."
Besides Jolie, Hudgens' role models include Halle Berry and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
"I really want to pick Halle [Berry]'s brain," she says. "She's such an empowering, sexy woman." And later, "There's nothing I would rather do than play [a role like] Catherine Zeta-Jones['s] in Zorro."
